“GIS” is short for “Geographic Information Systems.” GIS is a combination of software, data, and hardware used to visualize and analyze spatial data. The term GIS is often more loosely used to include software, data, analysis, and maps related to computerized mapping and geographic analysis.
Data Provided
The Planning Department assembles, creates, and maintains a full catalog of city-related spatial data. The GIS data is available to agencies, organizations, and the public. Licensing and fee requirements may apply. To request City GIS data, please complete the GIS Licensing Agreement and submit it to rholt@madera.gov. Examples of available City data include:
- General Plan
- Zoning
- Annexation Boundaries
- City Council Districts
- Arterial and Collector Streets
Assessor’s Data
The Madera County Assessor’s Office also maintains county-wide data that the City accesses and utilizes through a memorandum of understanding. This data is available only through the Madera County Assessor’s Office.
County data includes:
- Parcels
- Roads
- Rivers and Lakes
Madera County data is not available through the City’s Planning Department. Contact Madera County for more information on the availability of the Assessor’s Office GIS data.
